lock gate
Water level controller
A lock gate is a hinged barrier at either end of a canal lock, designed to hold back water while vessels move between sections of different water levels.
Lock gates typically work in pairs, opening and closing to fill or drain the lock chamber: The boat waited as the lock gates slowly swung open.
