Blue Nile

Khartoum's darker branch

The Blue Nile is one of two major tributaries of the Nile River, rising from Lake Tana in the Ethiopian highlands.

It joins the White Nile at Khartoum, Sudan, to form the main Nile.

The Blue Nile supplies most of the Nile's water during flood season, making it crucial to Egyptian agriculture since ancient times.
