Nile Delta

Alexandria's fertile region

The Nile Delta is the triangular region in northern Egypt where the Nile River fans out before emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the world's largest river deltas, it has been intensively cultivated since ancient times and remains Egypt's agricultural heartland.

The Greek letter delta (Δ) takes its name from this landform's shape.
