Nile River
Africa's longest waterway
The Nile River is Africa's longest river, flowing northward through northeastern Africa to the Mediterranean Sea.
It has historically sustained civilizations along its banks, most notably ancient Egypt, which depended on its annual floods for agriculture.
The Nile remains central to the geography and economy of Egypt and Sudan: a cruise down the Nile, the Nile delta.
