turnbuckle

Threaded tension adjuster

A turnbuckle is a metal coupling device with opposite internal threads at each end, used to adjust tension or length in cables, rods, or tie-downs.

Rotating the central body draws the threaded ends together or apart: Tighten the turnbuckle to take the slack out of the guy wire.

Common in rigging, fencing, and aircraft control systems.
