suplex

Arching backward throw

A suplex is a wrestling move in which you lift an opponent and throw them backward, typically arching your back to drive them into the mat.

The classic version—lifting someone from behind and slamming them over your head—appears in both amateur wrestling and professional wrestling entertainment.

The word also works as a verb: He suplexed his opponent onto the canvas.

Variations include the German suplex, belly-to-belly suplex, and fisherman's suplex.
