turnbuckles

Threaded tension adjusters

Turnbuckles are metal coupling devices used to adjust the tension or length of ropes, cables, or rods.

Each end has a threaded hook or eye that screws into a central barrel; rotating the barrel draws the ends together or pushes them apart.

Common in rigging, fencing, and structural bracing: The guy wires were tightened with turnbuckles.
