A snap hook is a metal fastening device with a spring-loaded gate that opens to receive a ring, loop, or line, then snaps shut to secure the connection.
Common on leashes, lanyards, and climbing gear: She clipped the snap hook to the dog's collar.
Also called a snap link or, in climbing contexts, a carabiner.
