tree fern

Trunk-bearing pteridophyte

A tree fern is a fern with a tall, trunk-like stem topped by large fronds, giving it the appearance of a palm tree.

Unlike true trees, tree ferns lack woody tissue—their "trunks" are masses of fibrous roots.

They grow in tropical and subtropical rainforests, some reaching heights of forty feet or more.
