lamina
Flat tissue sheet
A lamina is a thin layer, plate, or scale—any flat, sheet-like structure.
The term appears most often in scientific contexts: the lamina of a leaf is its broad, flat blade; in anatomy, laminae are thin plates of bone or tissue.
The vertebral lamina protects the spinal cord.
Plural: laminae or laminas.
