Visible ear flaps
Pinnae is the plural of pinna, the visible outer part of the ear that projects from the head.
In anatomy, the pinna captures sound waves and funnels them into the ear canal.
The term also appears in botany, where pinnae are the leaflets arranged along either side of a compound leaf, as in ferns or palm fronds.
The bat's large pinnae help it echolocate prey.
