palm
Tropical tree type
The palm is the inner surface of the hand between the wrist and fingers.
To palm something is to conceal it in your hand, as a magician palms a card or a basketball player illegally palms the ball.
To grease someone's palm is to bribe them.
To have someone in the palm of your hand is to have them under your control.
Palm also names a family of tropical trees with fan-shaped or feather-shaped leaves and no branches—the coconut palm, date palm, oil palm.
Palm fronds have long symbolized victory and peace; Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus's entry into Jerusalem, when crowds waved palm branches. (Capitalized Palm appears in product names like Palm Pilot.)
