native species
Naturally occurring organisms
A native species is a plant, animal, or other organism that occurs naturally in a particular region, having evolved or existed there without human introduction.
The term distinguishes these from invasive or introduced species brought from elsewhere: Conservationists are working to restore native species to the wetlands.
Native species are typically well-adapted to local conditions and integral to established ecosystems.
