wattle

Gobbler's throat dangle

Wattle has two unrelated meanings.

One is a fleshy growth hanging from the head or neck of certain birds, especially turkeys and roosters—the red dangly bit.

The other is a construction method using interwoven sticks and branches, often plastered with mud or clay: wattle and daub.

In Australia, wattle refers to various acacia trees and shrubs, whose flexible branches were traditionally used in wattle construction.
