tick marks
Lines showing increments
Tick marks are small lines or checks used to indicate items on a list, mark intervals on a scale, or show that something has been counted or verified.
On graphs and rulers, tick marks divide the axis into regular units.
When tallying, tick marks are grouped in sets of five—four vertical strokes crossed by a fifth diagonal line: She kept score with tick marks on a napkin.
