counters
Tokens for games
Counters are tokens or objects used for keeping count—in board games, card games, or any situation requiring tallies.
The word also names flat surfaces for transactions or food preparation: a store counter, a kitchen counter.
A counter is something that counts: a step counter, a bean counter (an accountant, usually dismissive).
To counter is to oppose or respond: He countered her argument with statistics.
A counter-argument or counterattack opposes the original.
As an adverb, counter means in opposition: His actions ran counter to policy.
