deletion
Cutting something out
Deletion is the act of removing something—text, data, a file, a passage.
In genetics, a deletion is a mutation where part of a chromosome or DNA sequence is lost.
The word emphasizes that something once present is now gone: The deletion of that paragraph improved the essay.
Unlike erasure, deletion often implies the removed content may be recoverable, at least temporarily.
