graduation

Cap and gown

Graduation is the completion of an academic program and the ceremony marking it: Her graduation from medical school took six years.

The word extends to any movement through stages or levels—graduation from training wheels to a real bike, or the gradual progression of colors in a sunset.

Graduations are also the marks on a measuring instrument indicating units or degrees.
