seams

Where fabric meets

Seams are the lines where two pieces of fabric, leather, or other material are sewn or joined together: The seams of her coat were coming apart.

By extension, any junction between fitted pieces: the seams of a boat's hull.

In geology, a seam is a thin layer of coal or ore between rock strata.

To burst at the seams is to be overfull.

Something coming apart at the seams is failing or deteriorating.

The verb seam means to join with a seam or to mark with lines resembling seams: Age had seamed his face.
