stitch
Needle's thread loop
A stitch is one passage of a needle and thread through fabric, or the fastening that results from this.
The term is the same for knitting and crocheting; different kinds of stitches are indicated by modifiers (garter stitch, slip stitch, purl stitch, cross stitch).
To stitch fabric is to join it with stitches.
If you stitch together abstract things, you put them together in a provisional or haphazard way.
A different kind of stitch is a sudden pain, especially in your side.
