toggles

Flips between states

Toggles is the third-person singular of toggle.

A toggle is a switch that alternates between two states—on and off, open and closed: She toggles between dark mode and light mode.

The word comes from a pin passed through a loop to fasten something, which could only be in or out.

In computing, toggles are ubiquitous interface elements.

To toggle is to switch back and forth: He toggles between tabs while working.
