armhole

Where sleeves attach

An armhole is the opening in a garment through which the arm passes.

In tailoring and sewing, the armhole determines how a sleeve attaches to the body of a shirt, dress, or jacket: The armholes on this blazer are too tight.

A well-fitted armhole allows free movement without excess fabric bunching.
