scull

Slender regatta vessel

A scull is a light oar used at the stern of a boat, worked with a twisting motion to propel the craft forward.

In rowing, sculls are a pair of shorter oars—one in each hand—as opposed to a single longer oar.

The boat itself may be called a scull.

To scull is to propel a boat this way: She sculled across the lake at dawn.
