dory
Small fishing vessel
A dory is a small, flat-bottomed fishing boat with high, flaring sides, traditionally used by commercial fishermen off the Atlantic coast.
Dories are light enough to be stacked on a larger vessel and launched individually: The schooner carried a dozen dories for the cod fishery.
The word also names the John Dory, an edible fish with a distinctive dark spot on each side.
