sculling

Oars on both

Sculling is a form of rowing where each rower uses two oars, one in each hand, rather than a single oar held with both hands.

The term also covers propelling a boat with a single oar worked back and forth over the stern.

As a verb, to scull is to row in this manner: We sculled across the lake at dawn.
