canoe paddle

Canoeist's stroking tool

A canoe paddle is a wooden or synthetic implement used to propel a canoe through water.

Unlike kayak paddles, which have blades at both ends, a canoe paddle has a single blade at one end and a grip at the other.

The paddler alternates sides or uses steering strokes like the J-stroke to maintain course: She dipped her canoe paddle into the still water.
