mount

Horse for riding

To mount something smaller than you, such as a picture or a bracket, is to fix it in place – on a wall, for example.

To mount something larger than you, such as a horse, is to climb up on its back.

Mount is also used to describe the act of a male (animal) engaging with a female in sexual intercourse.

A mount is an act of mounting, or if an animal, one that you mount: His mount was a dappled gray horse.

A different mount is related to mountain, and occurs as the first term in the official names of many peaks (Mount Rushmore, Mount Sinai, Mount Everest).
