omission

Something not included

Omission is leaving something out or failing to do something.

An omission can be accidental—a name dropped from a list—or deliberate: The report's omissions were telling.

In law and ethics, an omission may carry the same weight as an action: failing to report abuse, neglecting to disclose a conflict of interest.

Sins of omission are wrongs committed by not acting.
