inertia
Tendency against change
Inertia is the tendency of a body to resist changes in its state of motion—whether at rest or moving, it keeps doing what it's doing unless acted upon by an outside force.
This physics concept extends naturally to human behavior: bureaucratic inertia delayed the project for months.
When people speak of overcoming inertia, they usually mean the difficulty of getting started on something or breaking out of established patterns.
The word carries connotations of sluggishness and resistance to change.
