compositing

Merging visual layers

Compositing is the process of combining visual elements from separate sources into a single image, creating the illusion they belong together.

The term comes from film and video production, where separately shot footage, computer graphics, and effects are layered to produce a final scene: The compositing team added the dragon to the live-action footage.

In photography and digital art, compositing merges multiple images into one seamless result.
