PostScript
Printer programming language
PostScript is a programming language designed for describing the appearance of printed pages.
Developed by Adobe in the 1980s, it became the standard for laser printers and professional publishing, enabling precise control over text, graphics, and images.
PostScript files (with .ps extension) are human-readable code that printers interpret to produce output.
The format laid groundwork for PDF.
The designer sent the PostScript file to the print shop.
