railfan
Railway hobby devotee
A railfan is an enthusiast of trains and railroad history—someone who photographs locomotives, visits railway museums, collects memorabilia, or tracks train movements as a hobby.
The term is neutral and self-applied: Railfans gathered at the crossing to watch the vintage steam engine pass.
Also called a trainspotter, especially in British English.
