train engineer
Rails cabin operator
A train engineer is the person who operates a locomotive, controlling its speed, braking, and movement along the tracks.
In American usage, this distinguishes the operator from the conductor, who manages passengers and tickets.
The term can cause confusion with engineers in the technical profession—train engineers need not have engineering degrees.
