pantograph

Scale drawing copier

A pantograph is a jointed framework of bars forming a parallelogram, used to copy drawings at the same or different scale—as one end traces the original, the other reproduces it.

The term extends to any similarly hinged mechanism: the diamond-shaped arm that connects an electric train or tram to overhead wires, or extensible devices like accordion-style gates and adjustable lamps.
