station master

Depot authority figure

A station master is the official in charge of a railway station, responsible for its operations, staff, and the safe passage of trains.

The role was more prominent in earlier eras of rail travel, when station masters often lived on the premises and served as local figures of authority.

Also spelled stationmaster.
