rail

Marsh wading bird

By far the most frequent use of rail is as a noun referring to either of two things: something connected with railroads (travel by rail), or a horizontal bar that serves some purpose (hitching rail, fence rail).

A different kind of rail is a wading bird with short wings and long toes.

The verb rail describes complaining.

People who rail bitterly, angrily, or incessantly usually do so because there is no solution to their problem.
