cab
Hailed city vehicle
A cab is a taxi—a vehicle for hire with a driver.
The word comes from cabriolet, a horse-drawn carriage, and persists in cab driver, cab fare, and hail a cab.
Cab also refers to the enclosed compartment where a driver sits in a truck, locomotive, or piece of heavy equipment: The trucker climbed into the cab.
