presidential system
Executive-legislative branch separation
A presidential system is a form of government in which the head of state—typically called a president—is elected separately from the legislature and serves a fixed term.
The executive branch operates independently of the legislative branch, unlike parliamentary systems where the prime minister depends on legislative confidence.
The United States exemplifies the presidential system: The framers designed a presidential system with checks and balances among three branches.
