navigate

Find your way

Navigate means to plan and direct the course of a vehicle, vessel, or aircraft, or to find one's way through unfamiliar territory.

The word extends naturally to moving through any complex environment: She navigated the crowded subway platform or navigating the company's bureaucracy.

In computing, navigate describes moving through websites, apps, or file systems.

A navigator is the person who does this work, whether plotting a ship's course or reading a map for a driver.
