left
Opposite of right
Left is the side opposite to right—the direction of the hand most people don't write with.
It also names what remains after something is taken: There's nothing left.
In politics, the left refers to progressive or socialist positions, from the seating arrangement in the French Revolutionary assembly where radicals sat to the speaker's left.
As a verb form, left is the past tense of leave: She left early.
