solar energy
Photovoltaic panel input
Solar energy is power derived from the sun's radiation, captured through panels or other technologies and converted to electricity or heat.
The term appears in discussions of renewable resources and climate policy: Solar energy now accounts for a growing share of electricity generation.
By extension, solar energy sometimes refers more loosely to any energy originating from sunlight, including that stored in fossil fuels over geological time.
