futures
Trading market derivatives
Futures are financial contracts obligating the buyer to purchase, or the seller to sell, an asset at a predetermined future date and price.
Traders use futures to speculate on commodities like oil, wheat, or gold, or to hedge against price changes: Oil futures dropped on news of increased production.
The futures market allows betting on where prices will go without owning the underlying asset.
