cogeneration
Combined heat-electricity production
Cogeneration is the simultaneous production of electricity and useful heat from the same fuel source.
A factory might burn natural gas to generate power while capturing the waste heat for industrial processes or building heating.
Also called combined heat and power (CHP), cogeneration improves energy efficiency by using thermal energy that conventional power plants would simply vent.
