particulates
Suspended atmospheric matter
Particulates are tiny particles of solid or liquid matter suspended in air or water.
The term appears most often in discussions of air quality and pollution: particulate matter, particulate emissions.
Vehicle exhaust, industrial smokestacks, and wildfires release particulates that can penetrate deep into the lungs.
Fine particulates pose greater health risks than coarse ones because they travel further into respiratory tissue.
