musketoon
Compact cavalry gun
A musketoon is a short-barreled firearm used from the 17th through 19th centuries, essentially a shortened musket.
Its compact size made it practical for cavalry, naval boarding parties, and close-quarters combat where a full-length musket would be unwieldy.
The term now appears mainly in historical contexts and collections of antique weapons.
