long rifle
Pioneer's hunting weapon
A long rifle is a muzzle-loading firearm with an unusually long barrel, developed in colonial America for frontier hunting and warfare.
The extended barrel improved accuracy over greater distances.
The Pennsylvania long rifle and Kentucky long rifle are regional variants of the same weapon, named for where they were made or famously used.
Sharpshooters with long rifles harassed British troops from the treeline.
