sniper rifle
Long-distance precision firearm
A sniper rifle is a precision firearm designed for accurate shooting at long range, typically equipped with a telescopic sight and used by military or law enforcement marksmen.
The term emphasizes the weapon's role rather than a specific design—sniper rifles are usually bolt-action or semi-automatic rifles selected or modified for exceptional accuracy: The sniper rifle was effective at distances over a kilometer.
