automatic weapon
Keeps shooting continuously
An automatic weapon is a firearm that continues firing rounds as long as the trigger is held and ammunition remains.
This distinguishes it from semi-automatic weapons, which fire once per trigger pull.
Machine guns and submachine guns are automatic weapons.
In casual use, the term often loosely describes any rapid-fire gun, though this conflates distinct mechanisms.
