caplock
Nipple-and-cap mechanism
Caplock refers to a type of firearm ignition system using a small percussion cap to fire the weapon, replacing earlier flintlock mechanisms.
A caplock rifle or pistol has a nipple that holds the cap; when struck by the hammer, the cap ignites the powder charge.
The system dominated 19th-century firearms before cartridge ammunition.
Separately, caplock describes typing with caps lock engaged, producing ALL CAPITAL LETTERS: Sorry for the caplock, I didn't notice it was on.
