arquebus

Pre-musket infantry weapon

An arquebus is an early type of portable firearm, used from the 15th through 17th centuries.

It was fired by holding a lit match to a small touchhole, later improved with a matchlock mechanism.

Heavier than later muskets, the arquebus often required a forked rest for aiming.

The arquebus changed European warfare forever.
